"Venimos a Cantar" - Iglesia de Surinam / Suriname Church came to “Sing Along”
PARAMARIBO / Surinam (LWI) - La Iglesia Evangélica Luterana en Surinam (ELKS) realizó una Cantata el domingo 10 de mayo llamada Canten una Nueva Canción al Señor del Salmo 98. Líderes juveniles ansiosos por encontrar una manera de unirse propuso la idea de la cantata, al tiempo de estar conscientes de reunirse durante las restricciones de COVID-19.
PARAMARIBO/Suriname (LWI) – The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Suriname (ELKS) carried a Cantata on Sunday May 10 named Sing a New Song to the Lord Psalm 98. Couple of youth leaders eager to find a way to come together proposed the idea while conscious to gather during COVID-19 restrictions.
Cantando y alabando a Dios / Singing and Prasing God
La maravillosa idea "Venimos a Cantar" compartida en gran parte con los líderes de ELKS fue una iniciativa audaz. La “idea principal era alabar a Dios, experimentar el sentido de comunidad con nuestros hermanos y hermanas de una manera segura y responsable. Queríamos brindar a las familias la oportunidad de agradecer a Dios mientras se unían durante la pandemia y oraban por las personas que sufrían la crisis en este momento ", indica la Reverenda Danielle Dokman.
The wonderful idea of “Sing Along,” shared largely with leaders in the ELKS, was a bold initiative. The “main idea was to praise God, to experience the sense of community with our brothers and sisters in a safe and responsible way. We wanted to provide the opportunity for families to thank God while coming together during the pandemic, and praying for persons suffering from the crisis in this time,” indicates Rev. Danielle Dokman.
Rafael Van Ommeren, músico de la Iglesia Martin Luther y Lucille Van Omeren formaron parte del grupo creativo y estuvieron a cargo de la música. “Queríamos reunirnos de una manera diferente. Conociendo la restricción de COVID-19, la única idea era reunirse en el estacionamiento de la Iglesia Belén. Esto era exactamente a lo que nos podíamos comprometer y organizar”, dice Rafael.
Rafael Van Ommeren, musician in the Martin Luther Church and Lucille Van Omeren were part of the creative group and in charge of the music. “We wanted to gather in a different way. Knowing the restriction of COVID-19, the only idea was to meet in the Parking lot of the Bethlehem Church. This was exactly what we could commit and organize,” says Rafael.
Un equipo de logística, a cargo de solicitar el permiso de la administración COVID-19 de Surinam, recibió la aprobación de la solicitud de reunir 40 automóviles en el estacionamiento. El Equipo se comprometió a mantener a todos los asistentes en sus autos, organizó el estacionamiento siguiendo las regulaciones COVID-19 como espacio suficiente en caso de emergencia, e hizo un resumen del uso ordenado de los servicios.
A Logistics Team, in charge of seeking permission from the Suriname COVID-19 management, received approval of the request to gather 40 cars in the parking lot. The Team committed to keep all attendants in their cars, organized the parking following the COVID-19 regulations like enough space in case of emergency, and overviewed the use of services orderly.
Los protocolos fueron preparados y compartidos por adelantado; la adoración se incorporó en línea, se tomaron fotografías y se colocaron materiales. Una carpa que sirvió de altar ayudó a enfocarse principalmente en cantar y alabar a Dios. El equipo de sonido era bueno que "proporcionaba un sonido de calidad a los participantes e informaba a nuestros vecinos de una reunión especial en la iglesia", compartió la Pastora Presidenta Rev. Marjory Slagtand.
Protocols were prepared and shared in advance; the worship was mainstreamed online, taking of pictures was in place, and materials in place. A tent that served as altar helped focusing mainly in singing and praising God. The sound equipment was good that “provided quality sound to participants and made our neighbors aware of a special gathering happening in the church,” shared Pastor President Rev. Marjory Slagtand.
Agradecimiento a Dios por la vida de Madres y Padres / Gratitude to God for Life of Mothers and Fathers
"Venimos a Cantar" sucedió en la ocasión especial del Día de la Madre. Los ELKS decidieron honrar a las madres, los padres y sus hijos en este día especial en caso de que no sea una oportunidad para padres e hijos durante el resto del año. Fue significativo recordar y honrar la responsabilidad que cada persona tiene en las familias. Los ELKS reconocieron la importancia de vivir en buenas relaciones y respetar el papel de las mujeres como personas con dones que contribuyen en la sociedad y la iglesia.
“Singing Along” happened in the special occasion of Mother’s Day. The ELKS decided to honour mothers, fathers and their children on this special day in case the wouldnt be an opportunity to do so for fathers and children for the rest of the year. It was meaningful to remember and honor the responsibility that each person is given in families. The ELKS acknowledged the importance to live in good relations and to respect the role of women as persons with gifts that contribute in society and church.
El mensaje del evangelio se centró en la relevancia de vivir como familia y permanecer conectados y conectadas, cantando en tiempos de la pandemia. La Revda. Slagtand le recordó a la comunidad que continuara cantando en casa. Cantar para los ELKS se está convirtiendo en casa, una oportunidad para alabar a Dios.
The message of the gospel focused on the relevance of living as family and remaining connected, singing in times of the pandemic. Rev. Slagtand reminded the community to continue to sing at home. Singing for the ELKS is becoming, like in home, an opportunity to praise God.

La ELKS mostró su gratitud del rol de los padres al afirmar que ambos, padre y madre, contribuyen a construir esperanza en la vida de los niños y niñas. Las personas participando recibieron marcadores con versos de la Biblia como un recordatorio de la bendita presencia de Dios.
Affirming the value of life in gratitude to all mothers, the car horns were honked and Rev. Danielle Dokman prayed and blessed the families. The ELKS also appreciated father’s roles affirming that both, mother and father contribute to build hope in children lives. Participants received bookmarkers with Bible verses as a reminder of God’s blessing presence.
Reconociendo enfermeras en el hospital / Recognizing Nurses in the Hospital
A su llegada, las personas en cada automóvil recibieron papeles de colores en forma de manos. Allí, escribieron una nota especial de agradecimiento o deseo. Esas manos de papel, recogidos durante el momento de la ofrenda, fueron compartidos con las enfermeras en el Hospital de Surinam el martes 12 durante el Día Internacional de la Enfermera.
At their arrival, persons in each car received colored papers in shapes of hands. In there, they wrote a special note of appreciation or whish. These papers, collected during the offering, were shared with nurses in the Hospital of Suriname on Tuesday 12th during the International Nurses Day.
La idea detrás del símbolo fue mostrar solidaridad y gratitud a las enfermeras que trabajan y prestan servicios en el país, especialmente durante la pandemia de COVID-19.
The idea behind the symbol was to show solidarity and gratitude to nurses that work and service in the country, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
